Subaru of America, Inc. (SOA) today revealed the name of its new full-electric SUV Solterra. Sharing its underside with the Toyota bZ4X, it will be marketed in Europe in 2022. Designed as a common venture between Subaru and Toyota, the EV features a new, dedicated all-electric platform named the e-SUBARU Global Platform. The joint venture combines Subaru’s expertise in all-wheel-drive technology with Toyota’s car electrification technology.

Subaru’s new first outstanding electric vehicle will be the “cousin” of the Toyota bZ4X. The two vehicles, developed jointly by their respective engineers, will share their e-TNGA modular platform but also their advanced powertrains and much of their design. On the cliché published as a “teaser” by Subaru, the Solterra only seems to be distinguished from the bZ4X by the light signature of its headlights. Other aesthetic details could differ between the two models, which will be discovered during the full presentation of the Solterra.
