GMC released a video of the 2020 Hummer EV truck doing a “Watts to Freedom” launch-control start.
When outfitted with its optional 1000-hp three-motor system, the new Hummer EV truck is said to hit 60 mph in 3.0 seconds.
By the end of the year, the Hummer EV pickup will be available, along with an SUV variant and more affordable options.
GMC’s new Hummer EV pickup will go into production this autumn, with up to 1000 horsepower and a top speed of 60 mph in 3.0 seconds, according to GMC. That’s because to Watts to Freedom, the company’s launch-control mode, which GMC demonstrated on a prototype truck—a perfect way to kick off the holiday weekend.
We haven’t tried it yet, but Watts to Freedom promises to be different from the launch-control systems used in typical gas-powered automobiles. Although the driver must still simultaneously press the accelerator and brake pedals, Watts to Freedom seeks to improve the auditory experience by eliminating the need for a noisy internal combustion engine.
The air suspension lowers the Hummer EV 2.0 inches, followed by a sequence of noises, tactile input in the driver’s seat, and visual components in the 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, which includes a g-force meter. After this procedure is completed, it will accelerate to 60 mph in 3.0 seconds, according to the manufacturer.
The GMC Hummer EV will be available in pickup and SUV versions in the future, and it will be the first GM product to employ the company’s new Ultium battery technology. The Hummer EV features three electric motors that provide up to 1000 horsepower and all-wheel drive in its most powerful form. Models with two motors and less power are less expensive.
The fully outfitted Edition 1 pickup, which starts at $112,595, will be the first Hummer EV to hit the market, with lower versions and SUV variants following in the coming years. Once we get our hands on an electric Hummer to test, we’ll let you know how fast it is, and we’ll demonstrate you how Watts to Freedom and the Hummer’s other features operate.
