Isuzu and Cummins announced their collaboration on battery electric truck !

Cummins, which is best known for its diesel engines, has announced its collaboration with Isuzu to produce a prototype medium-duty battery electric truck for North America.

Cummins has been exploring electric powertrains since 2017 and has been talking about transitioning to electric power since then. Cummins even showed off a battery-powered truck at the time. This electric vehicle with Isuzu, on the other hand, is completely new, and it’s going to integrate a Cummins PowerDrive 6000 powertrain into Isuzu’s F-Series truck (which you can see in the picture).

Cummins does not provide technical specifications for its PowerDrive 6000, however, the drive unit has already been seen in a Cummins hybrid prototype.

When that truck’s battery pack was full, it gave 50 miles of electric range, but because it was a full EV battery, we think Isuzu and Cummins are employing a very much larger battery pack for extra range. We don’t have any significant specifications yet, such as power or range, but we expect them to be released soon.

Cummins and Isuzu are putting the truck on the “Pilot & Demonstration” period in North American fleets this year.

Once that is been finished (if it is successful), Cummins and Isuzu may collaborate on the production of battery electric trucks for commercial usage in North America.

We are excited to be working with Isuzu to accelerate decarbonization within the partnership. It’s through our joint commitment in innovation that we provide our customers with safe, reliable zero-emissions solutions.
