Polestar 3 intro
Polestar has just announced the upcoming introduction of a 100% electric SUV, the Polestar 3.
Polestar is a premium model of electric vehicles launched in 2017 as a project of both Volvo Cars Group and Geely Holding. The automaker started with the Polestar 1, a plug-in hybrid, followed by the all-electric Polestar 2.
The Swedish electric car brand Polestar will start production of its first SUV model locally for customers in the US, at Volvo Cars’ Ridgeville manufacturing center. Production of the Polestar 3 is expected to start globally in 2022.
Polestar Vision
there still a lack of details about the Polestar 3 – the current announcement by the Swedish company didn’t give full product details until a later date. The fact is that it will be an “electric performance SUV” and Polestar wants to manufacture the model locally in the United States for the American market. To that end, the Polestar 3 will “roll off the assembly line alongside new Volvo cars at the Volvo Cars plant in Ridgeville, South Carolina”. it was only inaugurated in 2018.
The company describes the choice as a step towards becoming a very well known brand in the world: “The decision transforms Polestar into a truly global brand with an industrial capacity in the two largest single markets for electric cars in the planet – the USA and China – alongside its headquarters and established sales and distribution capabilities in Europe,” the statement says. Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath is quoted in the press release as saying that “From now on, the USA is no longer an export market but a home market”. In line with this, around 25 local presences, so-called Polestar Spaces, are also to be opened in the United States this year.
Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath, report
Polestar 3 will be built in America, for our American customers. I remember the great response when I first shared Polestar’s vision here in the USA and I am proud that our first SUV will be manufactured in South Carolina. From now on, the USA is no longer an export market but a home market.
Volvo Cars and Geely Holding founded Polestar in 2017. The fact that Polestar and Volvo Cars share a manufacturing facility demonstrates the tremendous industrial and financial advantages that emerge from the ownership structure, according to the Swedish business.
“Making vehicles in the United States reduces delivery times and the environmental impact of exporting vehicles around the world. It will even have a good impact on the price of Polestar 3” said Dennis Nobelius, COO at Polestar.
The Polestar 3 is the first car in a new generation of Volvo Car Group’s electric vehicle architecture, which has been built from the ground up to be fully electric.
According to the company, the model would have self-driving capabilities as well as industry-leading connectivity features based on Google’s Android Automotive OS infotainment system.
Polestar initially revealed the Precept concept cars at the end of February 2020 as a preview of future electric vehicles with a more autonomous design.
The Polestar 3 will be significantly impacted by the Precept design line, according to a previous story in the British media.
“Beginning with the Polestar 3, you should always expect the design language of this vehicle in our modern vehicles.”
