Overview

Tata Motors outlined how Tata Group firms are and will assist the launch of electric vehicles like the Tata Altroz EV in a recent investor presentation. While we’ve previously discussed Tata Autocomp and Tata Chemicals’ contributions to the electrification effort, there are two additional Tata Group firms worth mentioning: Tata Power and Tata Motors Finance are two of Tata’s subsidiaries in the automobile industry.

All Tata EV car buyers in India will receive a standard home charging installation from Tata Power. The Indian power generation firm is constructing a public charging network to make the use of EVs much easier.

Tata Power has already placed 355 public charging stations across India, with ambitions to expand that number to 700 by the middle of FY2022, when the Tata Altroz EV is anticipated to be launched. Tata Motors Finance will provide structured solutions to large fleets looking to purchase EVs.

According to a January report from ET Auto, the upcoming electric would be launched in India in the second half of the year. The Tigor EV makeover will arrive in showrooms before the Altroz EV, maybe as soon as the following quarter (April-June 2021).

After the Tiago EV and Nano EV projects (including the Jayem Neo) failed to reach commercialization, the Tata Altroz EV will be the company’s first electric hatchback to hit dealerships.

Following the iTurbo, which features a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine generating 110 PS and 140 Nm, the Tata Altroz EV will be the second production mark of the Tata Altroz.

Tata Motors has a very aggressive production strategy for EVs In the Indian market. The Nexon EV and Tigor EV are the brand’s current passenger electric vehicles, and an electric version of the Altroz will be added to the lineup shortly, most likely next year.

The Altroz EV will be built on the brand’s Ziptron platform and, according to rumors, will have a bigger battery pack than the one that powers the Nexon EV, which is expected to have a maximum range of about 300 kilometers. However, the figure appears to be very optimistic, and we’ll have to wait for additional information before making any more judgments.

Altroz EV launch Date

At Auto Expo 2020, the Tata Altroz EV was introduced. It receives a new set of alloy wheels and a revised front end. It has the same capabilities as the regular Altroz. It makes use of the company’s innovative Ziptron powertrains, which debuted in the Nexon EV. It runs on IP67-rated dust- and water-proof for batteries.

Tata Motors plans to launch the Altroz EV between January and July 2021, before the COVID-19 epidemic hit. The release date has been pushed out to the second part of the year, during the festival season.

By the end of 2021, the Tata Altroz EV is scheduled to be available for purchase. It is anticipated to start at Rs 14 lakh when it is released (ex-showroom India).

Tata Altroz EV Rivals

At the time of launch, it will be the only premium electric hatchback.

The altroz EV model is likely to have a revised grille, a modified air dam, a new teal blue color, electric blue highlights all around, and no exhaust pipe at the back, as opposed to the ICE-powered Altroz.

At the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, the Tata Altroz EV was presented in a prototype version (March 2019). It made its Indian premiere at the Auto Expo 2020 a year later, with a revised, production-ready design. In comparison to the Swiss display car, the bumpers were new, and the electric vehicle looked to have more ground clearance. The EV logo was relocated to the bottom section of the tailgate, and a pole antenna replacing ever more costly shark-fin type.

The Tata Altroz EV has a cleaner, yet quirky, design than the Altroz. The top and lower grilles are replaced with closed-off gloss black panels and body-colored panels, respectively, at the front. The upper panel has an EV logo in teal blue, while the below panel has a distinctive tri-arrow design. Instead of a full-width chrome strip, the bumper edge is adorned with a teal blue stripe.

The Tata Altroz electric will be distinguished on the sides by its flexible 16-inch silver alloy wheels with teal blue highlights. A teal blue EV emblem is installed at the bottom of the tailgate for the same purpose. Expect white or a similar light-tone seat upholstery with the tri-arrow design on the inside, aside from teal blue accents on different parts like the AC vents, centre console, and instrument panel.

Tata Altroz EV Final Specifications

The Tata Altroz EV will be the first electric vehicle built on the Alfa-Arc chassis. Ziptron The Tata Altroz EV will be distinguished on the sides by its flexible 16-inch silver alloy wheels with teal blue highlights technology will be used, which includes a PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) and a Lithium-ion battery pack with IP67 dust and waterproof certification. The new car is projected to have a real-world range of at least 300 kilometers, DC fast-charging (80 percent charge in 60 minutes), regenerative braking, and an 8-year/1.6-lakh-kilometer powertrain guarantee. Tata Motors engineers were able to fit the batteries into the Altroz without compromising the vehicle’s ground clearance or interior capacity.

Altroz EV SPECS

Because the Tata Altroz EV may arrive in multiple range variations, some of the aforementioned specifications may only apply to certain configurations. Some buyers may use the Altroz EV in the city and their second vehicle for long road journeys and excursions, according to Tata. For them, a reduced range and/or lower engine outputs may not appear to be a tradeoff and may be more appropriate for their needs. Tata Motors President Shailesh Chandra has stated that the company may produce a lower-spec, more inexpensive version aimed at metropolitan users. The Altroz EV’s pricing would be quite appealing if it had a lower range variant.

Tata Altroz EV Range

It is expected to have a larger battery pack with a capacity of around 30kWh that provides a 300-kilometer certified range on a single charge.

Interior, Styles, and Infotainment

The Tata Altroz EV’s interior is anticipated to be nearly identical to its ICE equivalent. The absence of a mechanical gearbox, which will result in greater space around the center console, is the only improvement we foresee.

Features of the Tata Altroz EV include a semi-digital instrument cluster, automatic air conditioning, and linked vehicle technology.

furthermore to the 16-inch alloy wheels described above, the Tata Altroz EV should include LED headlights, a semi-digital instrument cluster, blue ambient lighting, a ZConnect touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wearable key, and more. It’s worth noting that the basic model lacks LED headlights. Because the Altroz EV is aimed at personal car customers rather than fleet buyers with different goals, expect a limited trim choice, and even the lowest configuration will include a number of appealing features.

With the Altroz EV, Tata Motors has made noticeable modifications for the first time on its electric variant. The dashboard has been rebuilt, and the center console’s flow has been altered to provide a ‘walk through’ feel (refer to image above). The electromagnetic parking brake and the drive selector are elegantly incorporated on the center armrest, which also includes storage for small items.

The Tata Altroz EV will come with EV-specific connected vehicle features that may be controlled through the new Tata iRA app. It should be able to monitor the charging status and time, as well as health batteries, engine health, and charging history, in addition to the normal capabilities.

The Capacity Of Seats

The Tata Altroz EV will feature a seating capacity of five passengers.

Tata Altroz EV Price

Tata Altroz EV Release Date and Price: The Altroz EV is anticipated to be released in late 2020, with a price tag of less than Rs 15 lakh which equals 20 000 USD. The Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV300 EV will be priced similarly to the Altroz EV.

The Tata Altroz EV is estimated to cost between 10 and 12 lakh rupees (ex-showroom). While the pricing will vary depending on the amount of localization of the powertrain, Tata Motors claims that the price difference between an ICE and an EV will be less than 25%. Furthermore, according to Shailesh Chandra, President, Tata Motors’ Passenger Vehicles Business Unit, the pricing gap between the Altroz and Nexon’s petrol and diesel models would obviously have to be kept on the EV models. The XZ Diesel versions’ pricing differs by 25.5 percent for reference.

The Tata Group intends to manufacture battery cells (Tata Chemicals is establishing a pilot plant to produce the cells in Dholera, Gujarat for use in Tata electric cars) and create an ecosystem to make Tata electric cars more affordable, including Tata manufacturing’s localization of the battery and motor. In the following years, these actions, along with lower batteries price, would result in a steady drop in Tata electric vehicle prices.

In a recent interview with thehindubusinessline.com, Shailesh Chandra discussed the Tata Altroz EV debut. The Altroz EV, he claimed, is Tata Motors’ “largest” electric car introduction to date. The ALFA design, according to Chandra, is a huge benefit for the carmaker and owing to the modular platform, it can electrify its whole line-up if it wants to. The Tata Altroz EV, which is cheaper than the Nexon EV, has the potential to become India’s best-selling electric car for personal usage.
