According to the local water authority, Tesla Inc. has secured water supplies for its facility outside of Berlin at the expense of any future expansion in the region.
Following a discussion on the Tesla project on Thursday, Wasserverband Strausberg-Erkner declared in a statement that the region’s water supplies are fully depleted. Further commercial and industrial expansion plans, according to WSE, aren’t achievable without further extraction licenses.
One of the primary reasons Tesla will start producing Model Y electric vehicles months later than Elon Musk intended is a concern that the facility would strain the area’s water supply.
While there was adequate water for the first stage of the factory in Brandenburg, where Tesla is building it, the state’s economic minister has stated that when Tesla develops, more water supply would be required. Tesla received project clearance earlier this month and has stated that it expects to receive an operational license in the coming weeks.
The corporation has sent out invites to a delivery day celebration on March 22 at the plant.
